Youth Service
Bournemouth Youth Service provides a range of informal educational opportunities for young people aged 11-25. It employs a total of 14 full-time youth workers and more than 100 part-time youth workers. There are also:
  • 5 full-time youth centres 
  • 4  part-time youth centres
  • 3 drop-in advice and information centres
  • 2 detached youth work projects
  • 1 full-time coffee bar
  • The "Urban Mobile"
Statement of Purpose
 
1. Introduction
 
The Bournemouth Youth Service is an integral part of the Education Directorate and Life Long Learning approach.  It is based upon a partnership between the voluntary and statutory agencies.
 
2. Statement of Purpose
 
To offer support to young people in their transition from childhood to adulthood enabling them to engage fully in society.
 
3. Values
 
Youth Work is concerned primarily with the personal and social development of young people and is underpinned by a commitment to equal opportunity, empowerment and participation.
 
Aims
 
1.  To enable and support a wide variety of provision for the age range 11 - 25 years which is relevant to the needs of young people.
 
2.  To create informal and formal opportunities with young people which are freely chosen, fun, challenging and encourage self development through the Youth Service curriculum.
 
3.  To develop relationships with young people which are essentially participative, based on trust, honesty and equality.
 
4.  To provide high quality training opportunities which support and develop those staff working with young people.
 
5.  To constantly review existing provision and develop innovative strategies to meet new challenges and the changing needs of young people.
 
6.  To provide information about the role and purpose of the Youth Service.
 
7.  To work together with local communities and other agencies to help meet the needs of young people.
