The works are due to start on Wednesday 28 May 2008 and will be carried out during the evenings from 7pm following the peak traffic period.
Work will be carried out over three evenings and will affect the areas of
Councillor Robert Lawton, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport said: “This element of the work is potentially the most disruptive to road users due to the need to narrow the road right down and control traffic with the use temporary traffic lights. We have therefore decided to carry out these works of an evening time in a continued effort to minimise delays. We also have to me mindful of the effect on local residents and therefore the works will be stopped by twelve o'clock each evening. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and would again advise drivers to find alternative routes if at all possible.”
The remainder of the surfacing work will take place in August 2008 towards the end of the project.
Background notes:
The roadworks scheme, which is on schedule and due for completion in August 2008, will provide enhanced traffic flow in the area. Improvements will include a dedicated left turn lane onto the Ringwood bound slip road at Cooper Dean, additional and improved pedestrian crossings, cycle paths and a bus lane as well as vital repairs to the existing worn out carriageway.
