Bournemouth Borough Council has spent £1.9 million in the past three years in the first half of a scheme to update its CCTV system.
Martyn Webster, Dorset Police’s CCTV Liaison Officer, said: ‘In the past month, (April), Dorset Police has successfully been able to use CCTV evidence to arrest, charge and process 62 people for offences ranging from assault and criminal damage to indecent exposure and assault on police. 28 of those arrests were sparked by calls made by CCTV staff to the police. These figures are testament to the efficiency of the system and I hope are proving to be a deterrent to potential offenders.’
