Bournemouth Borough Council training local sporting talent for the future

A sports training programme has recently been developed by the Hub Club, Bournemouth at the Sir David English Sports Centre, to encourage young sporting enthusiasts in the borough to become sports coaches to help develop local sporting talent.

The training programme will start this month at a Gifted & Talented Coaches Camp at the Sir David English Sports Centre. Over 2 days, students aged between 17 - 18 years old from local schools and colleges will learn about;

The budding coaches will also be provided with specific, information & training guidance from sports coaches & professional organisations including Sports Coach UK (a national training body), Active Dorset and the Dorset Football Association.

Students taking part in the Gifted & Talented Coaches Camp have been hand selected by their tutors from the Bournemouth School for Boys, Bournemouth & Poole College, St Peters School, Twynham School, the Youth Service and Bournemouth University.

Andy Pardy, School Sports Co-ordinator for Bournemouth School for Boys said,

“The Gifted & Talented Coaches camp is a great opportunity for our students as it gives them the chance  to develop their coaching skills and helps to support local community sports projects. Initiatives such as this are really encouraging and clearly demonstrate the Councils commitment to nurturing local sporting talent in the borough.”

Councillor Beverley Dunlop is passionate about developing local sporting talent. She said,

“This initiative is based around a comprehensive and progressive training programme, which will help to develop young people into confident and knowledgeable sports coaches and leaders. This will in turn, support the provision of coaching within the local community, and will help to develop a new generation of young sporting enthusiasts to encourage more young people to participate in sport within their local community”
