Bournemouth Borough Council's Arts Development programme develops projects with an 'arts and health' theme in partnership with artists, agencies and organisations.
They include:
Tea Dances with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra
Monthly Tea Dances currently held in Bournemouth’s Pavilion Ballroom - current dates and details.
Kings Park Hospital Live Music
Kings Park Hospital Live Music is developed in partnership with Kings Park Hospital and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
Ageing Well
Ageing Well is a partnership project with Boscombe and Springbourne Healthy Living. This project resulted in dance/movement training for staff at residential homes, and dance and music sessions with residents led by dance artists. Memories about music and dance were triggered by this work and these have been collected into a book One Good Tune - Remembered Forever (press release which opens as a PDF in a new window). Copies cost £4.00 (or £5.00 including postage) and are available from Arts Development, Bournemouth Library, 22 The Triangle, Bournemouth, BH2 5RQ, phone 01202 451805 or email Gill Horitz. The images on this page are from the book.
Sure Start Arts (now Kinson and West Howe Children’s Centre)
Sure Start Arts is an ongoing programme of arts activities and projects developed and evaluated in collaboration with staff and centre users.
Dancing Years
This is the title of a play based on the words and experiences of older Bournemouth residents who took part in a music/life story project at three Bournemouth day centres. The play was written by Wendy Wharam in collaboration with Gill Horitz, Arts Development Officer, who co-led the life story sessions. Funding is being sought to enable production of the play.
