Bournemouth Literature Development
Since 1997, Borough of Poole and Bournemouth Borough Council have a worked together to deliver arts development projects on priority themes, within the framework of the Joint Arts Plan.
Local authority officers in both authorities are based in Culture and Community Learning services (Poole) and Information, Culture and Community Learning (Bournemouth), covering Arts, Museums, Libraries and Adult Learning services. Literature, literacy and reader development form a part of the core library service work, as well as through a variety of projects.
Poole and Bournemouth Literature Development Plan
The development of a Literature Development Plan is a strategic initiative, planned and developed jointly. Arts development teams in Poole and Bournemouth also develop independent programmes in partnership with artists, arts organisations and community groups. The initiative also coincides with the National Year of Reading 2008
Borough of Poole and Bournemouth Borough Council commissioned Jonathan Davidson (www.midlandcreative.co.uk), with Sara Beadle (www.birminghambookfestival.org), of Midland Creative Projects Ltd, to develop a cross conurbation Literature Development Plan
Our vision is to create an informed and highly skilled group of Local authority officers who will meet regularly to deliver Literature Development projects, large and small, across the conurbation in response to local community need, regional and national opportunities.
Following consultation with individuals and groups in the conurbation, a Literature Development Framework (107kb word doc- will open in a new window) has been adopted and a programme of initiatives are planned during 2008.
