Death and Bereavement Services

Within the Bournemouth Bereavement Services section of this website you will find the following information. Please browse the index below and click on each heading to visit the page.

Registering a Death

Deaths must be registered within 5 days of the death occurring.

Registrars are available death registrations between Monday to Friday 9am to 4pm by appointment only. If you need to see a Registrar please contact the Registration Service to book an appointment. Our telephone line is open Monday to Thursday from 8.30am to 5.15pm and Friday from 8.30am to 4.15pm.

Special arrangements are available for families who, for religious reasons, need to bury the deceased within twenty four hours of death. Please contact your Funeral Directors who will make these arrangements for you.

Those who are able to register a death in order of legal preference are:

If the death occurred in Bournemouth but relatives live in another district you can made a Death by Declaration Registration at your local Register Office.

 

The Registrar will need certain information from you so they can register the death. They will ask you for: 

There is no fee for registering a death. If you require certificates at the time of registering, the fee is £3.50 for each one.  Click on the main Bournemouth Registration Service webpage for information about how to obtain a copy of a certificate at other times.

Burial / Grave Details

Bournemouth Bereavement Services hold burial and cremation records for all the Bournemouth Cemeteries (Wimborne Road, East, North, Kinson) and the Bournemouth Crematorium. For full addresses, please click here.

Family tree searches can be undertaken by Bereavement Services staff, or you may search the records yourself.

Please telephone the Bereavement Services office on 01202 526238 (during normal office hours) to make an appointment if you wish to search the records yourself.

If you would like Bereavement Services staff to undertake the search for you, please provide as much information as possible, including full name of the deceased and date of death. If you don’t know the date of death please provide an approximate year or range of years to aid the search.

Genealogy search fees are currently £18.50 for the first half hour plus £18.50 for each subsequent half hour (maximum charge £75). You may telephone, write or email the request to us using the contact details below.

Copies of death certificates can be purchased from the Bournemouth Registration Service.
