Supported Housing And Special Needs
The Council undertakes a Special Housing Needs Survey once a year to establish what the the special housing need is across the Borough. The latest survey identified 377 individuals/households in 2007 with either a current or future special housing need.
This information is placed into a document called a 'Development Brief' which identifies what kinds of housing is required in Bournemouth to meet the housing need. The Development Brief is issued to Bournemouth's Registered Social Landlord Partners who then submit bids to the Housing Corporation for grants to fund the development of general housing schemes and supported housing schemes. The most recent Development Brief issued to our Registered Social Landlord Partners has identified a total of 185 units of supported housing required between 2008-2011.
Supporting People
Supporting People is central government funded and provides housing related support for vulnerable people to improve their quality of life and enable greater independence.
For more information on Supporting People, visit the Supporting People web pages.
Sheltered Housing
Bournemouth Borough Council believes that older people should be able to continue to live independently within the community for as long as they wishto do so. Our sheltered housing stock of unfurnished flats, bungalows and studio apartments is situated across the Borough of Bournemouth. It offers older people the opportunity of maintaining their independence within accommodation which benefits from a warden call system linked to our 24 hour Central Control, and either an on-site Sheltered Housing Officer or a visiting Sheltered Housing Mobile Officer.
Visit the Council's sheltered housing web page to find out more.
Community Care Services
Community Care Services provides a range of housing related services including the funding of care homes and Domiciliary Care. Eligibility for adult Community Care Services includes people whose independence would be at a 'critical' or 'substantial' risk if they did not receive services.
For more information on these services, visit the Bournemouth Care Direct pages or telephone 01202 458750.
