Planning Policy covers the following:
LOCAL PLAN
One of the most important responsibilities of the Planning Policy team is the production of the Council's policy for future developments in the town. In simple terms, it gives people an idea of the types of development that will and will not be permitted, and where development is likely to take place. It tackles a wide range of land-use issues such as housing, transport, the economy, conservation and recreation and leisure. For more information on local plans click the ‘local plans’ link in the left hand menu.
REGIONAL & STRATEGIC PLANNING
Bournemouth, as a Unitary Authority has strategic planning responsibilities. This involves working with neighbouring strategic authorities (Dorset County Council and Borough of Poole), local District Authorities and the South West Regional Assembly. Strategic Planning involves developing long term policies covering a large area on a wide range of land use issues such as housing, transport, the economy, conservation and recreation and leisure. For more information on regional and strategic planning click the ‘regional and strategic’ link in the left hand menu.
MINERALS & WASTE
Bournemouth Borough Council's Planning Board determines all applications for minerals and waste disposal development in the Borough, and also exercises the strategic minerals and waste disposal function within the area. However, under an agreement, Bournemouth Council is advised on strategic minerals and waste planning matters by officers of Dorset County Council. For more information on minerals and waste click the ‘minerals and waste’ link in the left hand menu.
