Bournemouth Council is responsible for maintaining the Borough's roads (technically known as carriageways) and pavements (known as footways) of adopted highways. An adopted highway is one where the local authority has taken on the legal responsibility for maintenance.
The Council has a responsibility to keep the roads and footpaths safe to use.
In addition to routine inspections, each year a visual survey of the condition of all principal and other classified roads is undertaken, along with some of the busiest unclassified roads and those unclassified roads that need more extensive treatment than minor repairs. This then provides us with the information needed to draw up the Council's annual structural maintenance programme.
Between 1st April 2004 and 31st March 2005, the Council carried out maintenance work:
Schemes for maintenance works to be commenced out in the year beginning 1st April 2005 are as follows:
Schemes planned for maintenance works to be commenced out in the year beginning 1st April 2006 are as follows:
The final programme of works will be determined by the availability of funding. Please contact us for the latest information.
