This section presents the objectives and associated targets of the LTP. Combined with the analysis of problems and opportunities it provides the foundations for the LTP.
The Vision
Our shared vision, which incorporates the Public Consultation results, is:
'an integrated transport system that is safe, sustainable and accessible for all and that will assist in achieving a quality of life that is of the highest standard'.
This includes the central theme of a high-quality, sustainable, integrated transport system that is safe and accessible that embraces the three authorities corporate values. It also reflects the public participation recommendation that any LTP initiatives must be improved in the areas of Quality, Convenience and Safety.
Objectives
The Transport White Paper states objectives for the environment, safety, economy, accessibility and integration.
The provisional LTP new objectives were based on these five overarching objectives. These have been largely supported by the public and the forums held in the public participation process.
However one theme that has arisen out of the consultation is the desire to enhance neighbourhood centres so that the need for travel is reduced and the quality of residents life is improved.

The revised objectives reflect European and National Government overarching objectives, results of public participation and the wider policy areas of health and social exclusion.
