Redhill Park and Common is a historic green space covering an area of approximately 25.91 Hectares, serving a population of some 5000 people.
It is greatly valued by the local community and is intensively used for informal recreation, in particular by young people and dog walkers. It provides sporting facilities for people living in the conurbation. The site delivers a unique mixture of parkland and semi-natural grassland/ woodland.
The site offers a mixture of broadleaved and coniferous trees and shrubs providing a rich and varied food source for wildlife. Shrub borders are mulched with prunings and leaves wherever possible and thus contribute to the food chain. Pesticide use is minimized and peat is not utilised on site.
The Community undertakes the management of the bowls and tennis facilities through the Redhill Park Trust and is also involved through the Redhill Common Conservation Group.
The site also hosts Boredom Busters, the Council's supervised playscheme for organised play on weekday mornings during the school summer holidays (to pre-book call 01202 456111).
It is well maintained by site-based grounds staff who achieve the specified standards and ensure, together with the Community Parks Officers, that the Park and Common is safe to use and provides a pleasant environment for relaxation.
The park is designated for the control of dog fouling under the Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996.
In addition some areas are designated ‘Dog Prohibited’ and ‘Dogs on Leads’ under the Byelaws for the Regulation of Dogs.
For more information on the management of the park please see Redhill Park & Common Management Plan.
