Tennis For Free main aim is to make all publicly managed tennis courts in the UK available for use by all...for free!
We have been working with Bournemouth Borough Council since July 2005 offering them funding and support to open up park courts in Shelley Park, Boscombe for free play and free coaching.
The fantastic support that the charities sponsors, Amex and Sportsmatch have given enables Free coaching and Free equipment for families to get out, be active and spend time together using local facilities.
When and where?
FREE tennis coaching and equipment every Sunday afternoon from 2:00 - 4:00pm, not only is there free coaching but the courts, of which there are 3 are also free of charge to use anytime you wish, excluding when the tennis club has training or playing their matches.
There is no need to book for the coaching or the courts just turn up and play, all of the kit and equipment is provided within the coaching sessions, so you do not even need to have a racket.

Golf Roots in Bournemouth!
Bournemouth Borough Council is at the forefront of a national Golf Foundation project called Golf Roots to introduce thousands of urban youngsters to play golf and enjoy the sport’s positive benefits. Bournemouth has been officially recognised as one of 16 urban areas in England and Wales taking part in ‘Golf Roots’ for 2008, the Golf Foundation project offering city youngsters a golfing experience and the opportunity to progress further in the sport. Children from all backgrounds and abilities will be able to play golf in schools, at community festivals, and will also be offered a pathway from school groups to actual golf clubs and driving ranges, so that they can continue playing golf into the future.
Mike Round, Chief Executive of the Golf Foundation said, “Golf encourages many attributes that can help children when growing up, including honesty, co-operation, respect, self-motivation, concentration and perseverance. Golf Roots is a great initiative because it empowers local people. All the children taking part, plus their older siblings, parents, teachers and the local sports partnerships, can join in together. Children, who might never have dreamed of playing golf before, have a great time. They are then directed to further playing opportunities down the line.”
If you would like to find out more about taking part in a Golf Roots project call Mike Burke, Sports Development Officer on (01202) 437818.

O2 Scrum on the beach
England stars Paul Sackey and James Simpson-Daniel kicked off the O2 Scrum on the beach
tour on Bournemouth Beach earlier this year. The Scrum on the beach festival is part of the RFU’s Play on campaign that aims to keep more 16-24 year olds engaged in the game as they move from school into higher education and beyond. 39 teams entered in the festival of all ages, totalling around 300 people playing rugby on the beach. There were many more spectators as the festival was an great day out for anyone wanting to play or watch beach rugby, test their skills in the state of the art playzone, visit the RFU mobile museum and shop, or sit back on the sand and enjoy the live music and entertainment.
Paul Sackey and James Simpson-Daniel were on hand to chat with fans, sign autographs and pass on their beach rugby tips as they played a couple of games.
The standard of play was high throughout the day, with Brunel winning against Portchester School in the final. Well done to everyone who took part and all the staff who helped make the day a huge success, we are looking forward to next year already!
