Senior Carer

A day in the life of a Senior Carer for Horizon Care

Bridget, 54 has been working in the care industry for the last 30 years.

“I’ve always done care work. I started out working in a nursing home. When my children left school I thought I would try homecare instead and have been working in homecare for about 15 years now.

“The most challenging part of the job is challenging behaviour from our clients, if they’ve had a bad day the first person they take it out on is us as we might be the only person they see that day. The most enjoyable part of the job is meeting different people and getting to hear stories about their life.

“The job is ideal for me as I wouldn’t like to stay in the office all the time. I like to go out and chat with my clients. It’s nice going out and meeting all different sorts of people and I know that when I’ve left a client I know they’re safe and I’ve done what they’ve needed.

Someone looking to do homecare work obviously has to be caring and be very patient and have good listening skills. If you’re thinking about a homecare job then go for it, just try it.
