Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole’s beaches have won several awards for water quality and sustainability. Here’s an overview of the awards we’ve won.

Blue Flag awards

The Blue Flag awards recognise beaches for their water quality, environmental management and safety.

Currently there are nine Blue Flag awards for the following beaches:

  • Alum Chine
  • Durley Chine
  • Fisherman’s Walk
  • Manor Steps
  • Southbourne

  • Sandbanks
  • Shore Road
  • Canford Cliffs
  • Branksome Chine

Seaside awards

On top of this, all nine Blue Flag locations have the added honour of receiving Seaside Awards developed by Keep Britain Tidy, as well as the beaches at Bournemouth and Boscombe plus Friar’s Cliff, Avon and Highcliffe beaches in Christchurch.

Green Tourism awards

The Green Tourism Business Scheme rewards areas for how energy is used and waste reduction targets. Our seafront won the Green Tourism Business Scheme award in 2007, 2009 and 2011.

Water tests

Our water is tested between May and September to see how it matches up to European standards. You can see the latest results.
