Pier Approach

Gateway to a World Class seafront

Welcome to Pier Approach

Improvements completed early in 2018 have ensured that Pier Approach is one fluid, united space; the ultimate beachfront and promenade experience with widened walkways, elegant planting and welcoming lighting to encourage visitors to stay longer on the warm summer evenings.

Promoting dining, arts, culture and events at the seafront, Pier Approach is in itself a destination. Bournemouth has created a welcoming and exciting public space to entice and inspire new generations of visitors.

It is home to many thriving restaurants, cafes and venues offering family friendly activities. It is home to an interactive water play area, and offers places for sitting and watching the world go by. It is a gateway to Bournemouth’s magnificent seven miles of golden sand, as the beaches stretch out in both directions.

It is a stunning location with incredible views along the coast.

Pier Approach invites you to the seafront, and encourages you to stay a while.

Carrying out the two phased improvements

Phase one kicked off the improvements at Pier Approach. An initial £4million investment scheme delivered in the winter of 2014/15 on the eastern side of Pier Approach provided landscaping, a water play area and a new tourist information centre.

Work on the second phase of improvements to Pier Approach started in Autumn 2017 and completed in May 2018.

Funded by £1.9million Coastal Communities grant from central Government, improvements to the public realm included new landscaping, granite paving offering wider walkways and elegant planting. Innovative high-capacity semi-submerged bins encourage visitors to be responsible with their litter and dispose of it carefully.

Together these phases tie the whole of Pier Approach together as one united and welcoming space.
