Preventing Food Poisoning
We check businesses to keep customers safe from food poisoning
Our steps on preventing food poisoning follow the Food Standards Agency (FSA) guidelines.
The guidelines have been developed from serious outbreaks of E. coli 0157 food poisoning in the past. As E. coli is particularly infectious and dangerous, taking steps to control E. coli will control other forms of food poisoning such as salmonella.
We know that most businesses take every precaution against cross-contamination and infection, these should always include:
- Separating work areas, surfaces and equipment for raw and ready-to-eat foods.
- Hand washing in the recommended way with soap and warm water.
