Temporary Home Access to Ancestry
While libraries are closed library members can access Ancestry Online from home. To do this go to the Library Catalogue Account page and login with your library card. The Ancestry link will then appear, and you can search through thousands of records at home.
Enjoy free online resources www.bournemouth.gov.uk/cyberlibrary
Also if you have a Libraries West membership card (e.g. Poole, Christchurch, Highcliffe, Dorset libraries) look on www.librarieswest.org.uk web pages for more information.

Learn about local history
Our Heritage Zone is based at the Bournemouth Library. You can research local history, including information about Dorset and Hampshire. You can learn more about our resources by viewing our Collection Guide.
We have research and school services, as well as online resources.
Services at the Heritage Zone
Much of the material in the Heritage Zone is for reference only. However, we do have some items that you can borrow, including books, DVDs and maps.
Past Mayors of Bournemouth
Bournemouth was granted its Charter by Queen Victoria on 23rd July 1890, and its first election of Councillors was held in November 1890.
If you aren't able to borrow an item you can make a photocopy or scan (subject to copyright). There's a small charge for the photocopier.
If you're going to do research you can reserve a computer or viewer in advance. You can reserve at the library in person, but there may be a wait.
