Using the Music Zone
The Music Zone has a lot of resources in different formats. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, you can ask our staff to find it for you.
There is a range of CDs in most of our libraries. The Music Zone has the biggest collection in Bournemouth, with the following genres:

The Music Zone has a collection of music DVDs for hire, this includes live performances, operas, musicals and documentaries as well as DVDs to help you learn to play an instrument..
You can search for what you want using the online catalogue.
Books and magazines
The Music Zone has books about the music business, performance, the history of music, music theory and the lives and works of musicians and composers. All books and printed music can be borrowed for free.

We subscribe to the Naxos Music Library, where you can get to 50,000 CDs from a variety of genres. To log-in to Naxos, you’ll need your nine-digit library card number.
We also subscribe to Oxford Music Online. You can get to Grove online, the Oxford Dictionary of Music and the Oxford Companion to Music here.
The Music Zone has a selection of scores. This includes miniature scores, full scores and vocal scores which are free to borrow.
We have a Yamaha Clavinova electronic piano, with a seven octave range. You can use this for practice. There’s also a computer with Sibelius notation software attached. Both the piano and computer can be used for free. You can book sessions in advance.
We have a listening post which you can play music CDs on and listen to inside the library.
We have dance books, magazines and DVDs. This covers classical and contemporary dance. These can be borrowed. We also have information on classes and performances in Bournemouth.
