Cherries Court, an attractive development of eleven shared ownership family houses in Boscombe, welcomes residents this month.
The scheme cost £1.9m part funded through the Homes & Community Agency (HCA) with a contribution of £264k, the majority funded through the initial sales of the properties with any remaining balance funded by Bournemouth Council. Property prices start from £97,500 for a 50% share plus rent.
Aimed at local families looking to get onto the property ladder, the development comprises 6 x 3-bed houses and 5 x 2-bed houses, which have been made affordable to first time buyers via the shared ownership scheme.
Councillor Robert Lawton, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “Affordable family accommodation in Bournemouth is a top priority for the Council. Cherries Court is an exciting development and I am delighted that local families are benefiting from the opportunities of home ownership that this scheme provides. The Council is committed to provide Housing of all tenures and enabling local residents to gain a foothold on the property ladder is one of our priorities.”
Paul Gillard Project Director of Drew Construction Group who built the development, said: “We are delighted to have worked with Bournemouth Borough Council to deliver their first shared ownership scheme in Boscombe. As a local main contractor, we understand the need for this type of housing in the area and are very pleased to have been able to deliver this scheme to such a high standard. Having worked on projects with the Council for a number of years, we wish them every success in continuing to provide high quality affordable housing for local people.”
New homeowners at the development Mr & Mrs Plewa, said: " Firstly we would like to say we’re very grateful to Bournemouth Council for introducing this programme to Boscombe. It's a chance for hardworking people with families to be able to step on the property ladder. The Cherries Court team have been very kind, helpful and professional at every aspect of this process. We cannot wait to move in to our new home."
