Bournemouth seafront on track for a hole in one

Plans for a new attraction in 2019 at Bournemouth’s Waterfront area are progressing. The planning application for Smugglers’ Cove Adventure Golf has been submitted and will be available to view online shortly.
Themed golf courses are one of the UK’s fastest growing family activity choices. Plans for the course, which will be built within the current footprint and height of the self-contained Waterfront area, will see an 18-hole course based on Bournemouth’s swash buckling history.
The attraction features extensive natural planting and a material palette complementing the recently regenerated Pier Approach. A roaring, real life waterfall will cascade in the centre of the course and recycled groyne timbers removed from the beach will give an authentic, natural feel.
Bournemouth’s secret past as a smuggling haunt in the mid-eighteenth to early nineteenth century will unfold to players during the game; giving it an educational edge as well as providing great fun for all the family.
Councillor Pat Oakley, Cabinet Member for Tourism Leisure and The Arts said:
“Currently, the Waterfront space functions as an event area with mixed success. This project aims to deliver a high-quality family attraction for Bournemouth’s visitors and our residents. With the inclusion of Bournemouth’s Smuggling History, we are able to combine one of the more colourful aspects of our Local Heritage with a real top-quality family FUN attraction. I am delighted to offer this addition to Bournemouth’s list of attractions.”
Subject to planning application approval the attraction is set to open for summer 2019.
