It's a tee off for the Smugglers Cove Adventure Golf

The transformation of the Waterfront area will shortly get underway as work starts on Smugglers Cove Adventure Golf.

The 18-hole themed golf attraction is firmly rooted in swashbuckling history with Bournemouth’s secret past as a smuggling haunt unfolding to players during the game. Smuggling was rife in the mid-eighteenth and early nineteenth Century. Snippets of Bournemouth’s local history will be revealed, as players make their way around the interactive course giving this exciting game an educational edge.

The course, which will be built within the current footprint and height of the self-contained Waterfront area, will feature extensive natural planting and a material palette complementing the recently regenerated Pier Approach. With a roaring, real-life waterfall cascading in the centre of the course and recycled groyne timbers from the beach being used, the course will be a visually stunning addition to Bournemouth.

Leader of Bournemouth Council, Councillor John Beesley said:

“Improvements to the public realm at Pier Approach completed during 2018 have created a vibrant and contemporary welcoming gateway to the seafront. Promoting dining, arts, culture and events, Pier Approach is itself a destination, and we’re delighted that the adventure golf attraction will provide an additional reason for visitors to enjoy the space we have created.”

Councillor Pat Oakley, Bournemouth Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Leisure and The Arts said:

“Currently, the Waterfront space functions as an event area with mixed success. This project aims to deliver a high-quality family attraction for Bournemouth’s visitors and our residents. With the inclusion of Bournemouth’s Smuggling History, we are able to combine one of the more colourful aspects of our Local Heritage with a real top-quality family FUN attraction. I am delighted to offer this addition to Bournemouth’s list of attractions.”

Smugglers Cove Adventure Golf is set to open in summer 2019.
