Highways Funding

We have received additional funding from the Department for Transport to be spent on our highways

National Productivity Investment (NPI) Fund

The NPI statement details what the funding will be spent on and where in 2017-18.

A341 Wimborne Road (Horsham Avenue to The Broadway)

This road forms part of the Strategic Highway Network with high traffic flows, high frequency bus services.

Bournemouth Borough Council and Dorset County Council identified th A341 as a key diversion route for the A347, (which provides one of the main river crossings in the area).

The A341 runs through a locally important district centre. It is in one of the more deprived parts of the town, providing access to services, employment and education. The condition of the carriageway on this section of the A341 is poor and requires frequent reactive maintenance to repair defects. These repairs cause disruption on this strategic part of the network with the resultant traffic congestion hampering the economic vitality of the area.

The traffic signalled controlled junction of East Howe Lane and The Broadway is also within this section of highway. This junction is also considered life expired. This site being one of the oldest sites in the Borough, see plan for further details.

As a result, this location has been identified through our strategic programme for the management of highway assets as a priority location. The National Productivity Investment Funding will be used with the Local Highways Maintenance Funding (Needs Element) to provide a scheme to improve facilities for all road users. It will address historical maintenance issues, whilst reducing resultant congestion and reduce incidents of flooding.

Ground investigation and drainage works have been completed as part of the 2016-17 programme. Work has already started on the planning and procurement of the various scheme elements for delivery within the forthcoming financial year.

Pothole Action Fund

The Pothole Action Fund Report details what the funding has been spent on and where in 2016-17.
