Terms and conditions for grave maintenance and cleaning

Coronavirus (COVID-19): change to service

On advice from the government regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19), we have closed our cemeteries to the public and introduced a temporary reduction to cremation and burial fees.

See further information about changes to services.

If you decide to take out a grave maintenance or cleaning contract, the following terms and conditions apply:

The Council reserve the right to refuse an application received for maintenance and also terminate at any time any arrangement made giving one month’s notice and returning any fees paid for the unexpired portion of the term in respect of which a fee shall have been paid.
The maintenance of a grave space includes the cutting and upkeep of any turf, the clearance of weeds, and the washing once per year of any memorial thereon. If the grave space has been planted by the Council, maintenance will include the provision and upkeep of the plants. The Council will not be responsible for the maintenance of the actual memorial, other than the annual washing.
The Council will not be responsible for making good replacing or repairing any memorial erected or to be erected on or over the grave space which may become decayed or damaged otherwise than through the negligence of the Council or any of their employees.
