Visit Different Childcarers To Help You Decide
Get a feel for the type of setting that you'd like to send your child to. If you can, take your child with you to see how they react
Try to visit when other children are there, to see how engaged they are and how staff interact with them.
What to look for
- Do the children seem happy and calm when they are playing together?
- Are staff listening to children and answering them carefully?
- How do they relate to you and your child?
- Is the setting welcoming, clean and uncluttered?
Take a list
Take a list of questions with you on visits so you don’t miss any important points. Use the same list of questions for each setting you visit, so that you can compare them. We've put together a checklist for you to use.
Ask about the key person
Each child has a "key person".
Usually the key person tells parents about activities the child has taken part in throughout the day and any special achievements.
Ask who would be your key person, and how they will let you know how your child is doing.
Check what to do if you have any concerns about your child.
