Please can all early years childcare providers complete our quick vacancy data survey to record your termly occupancy for the council’s Childcare Sufficiency duty.
We simply need to know how many children in total you could have had on the morning of Thursday 27 February and how many you actually cared for. Also, your current vacancies for funded two-year-olds, looking for a 15 hours place.
The survey will open on 26 February and close on Sunday 8 March. As with autumn, we will share the outcome. Thank you in advance for your co-operation. If you have any queries regarding this, please email or call Clare Vials on: 01202 456353.
Estimate Payments for the summer 2020
The portal will be open from 24 February for all providers to start sending their Estimate Payments claims for the summer term. The deadline to submit the claims is 18 March. Please make sure you calculate the funded hours correctly, especially if claiming the all year round stretch for 4 year olds.
Early Years Funding Workshop for Childminders
This workshop is open to all BCP childminders offering Early Years Entitlements. It will provide an opportunity to meet the whole funding team, to discuss and ask questions. The workshop will explain Early Years Entitlements and the process for claiming the funding.

You are invited to the next BCP SEND Forum which will be held on Tuesday 3 March. The forum is for all professionals who work with children and young people (0 to 25) with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. The forum provides an opportunity to feedback and help shape the development of SEND strategies and approaches and will have a focus on the following areas:
- Mental health
- Preparing for adulthood
- SEND strategy
- Self-evaluation and implementation plan
- SEND peer review
- SEND service restructure

There has been an increase in the cases of mumps in the South West. Mumps is a contagious viral infection most recognisable by the painful swellings at the side of the face under the ears. Please promote how important it is for all children to of had the two doses of the MMR vaccine to protect them.

Your Mind, Your Say
NHS Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group (Dorset CCG) want your views on mental health services for children and young people. The Your Mind, Your Say survey is for anyone who has a view on children and young people’s mental health services including children, young people and their families/carers. Young people under 16 will need parental consent to complete it. The more views shared the better the outcome will be in helping to improve children and young people’s mental health services across Dorset.
Employment Law Changes April 2020
There are a few changes to Employment Law from April 6 2020:
- new right to a written statement of terms
- amendments to agency workers rules
- changes to IR35 rules for the private sector
- holiday pay reference period adjustment
- new parental bereavement law

Private Fostering is when a child under the age of 16 (18 if disabled) is cared for by someone who is not their parent or close relative, for 28 days or more. It is a criminal offence to fail to notify the local authority of a private fostering arrangement.
Beep Beep! Day
Every year thousands of tots and infants aged 2-7 take part in a special Beep Beep! Day organised by their school, nursery, playgroup or childminder, to help save little lives. It's a great way to engage children with the road safety basics through fun activities, while raising awareness among parents and the wider community about protecting children on roads.
