Please make sure you calculate the funded hours correctly, especially, if claiming the All Year Round Stretch for four year olds.

Funding

Would you like to try monthly early years funding payments?

The local authority has a duty to offer its early years funded providers the option of monthly payments, rather than the traditional twice termly payment. Please see page 23 of our Early Education Funding Guide for more information on how it works. If you’d like to change to monthly (or revert back to twice termly) please email your funding team by 13 March.

Pan-Dorset Safeguarding Children Partnership Website

The Pan-Dorset Safeguarding Children Partnership website went live on 2 March 2020. As previously, this website will be regularly updated. This new website will replace the Bournemouth and Poole LSCB and Dorset LSCB websites.

Pan-Dorset Safeguarding Children Partnership Neglect Strategy and Toolkit

The Pan-Dorset Neglect strategy and toolkit have been updated. These can be found on the Pan-Dorset Safeguarding children Partnership website, using the working with children dropdown, and clicking into the child neglect section.

Safe Sleeping and Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy (SUDI)

Within BCP, wider Dorset and nationally there has been an increase in cases of Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy (SUDI). There will be further support materials and website links made available over coming weeks to support your work with families around safe sleeping / unsafe sleeping.

Factors such as: consumption of alcohol, smoking, prescribed drug use, use of illegal drugs all raise the risks of SUDI. Other factors to consider regarding the risk of SUDI are staying at a different house  ̶  for example relatives, a weekend away and celebration events.

Please use these links to the Lullaby Trust who provide clear advice and support and also helpful guidance video  and a poster to support both yourself and professionals and the families you work with.

Training

Early Years Safeguarding Forum for Designated Safeguarding Leads  ̶  Thursday 12 March 9.30am to 11.30am at Early Years Centre for Professional Development. Please note this is a repeat of the Forum held on the 2 March.

Please see updated information on the Early Years Safeguarding web page.

Children’s Therapy Services Training Courses

Children’s Therapy Services at Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust are offering several full day and twilight training courses which are open to all staff working with children.

PEIC-D Workshop – Dorset Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy Service

This one day course revisits early interaction skills such as imitation, turn-taking and interaction. These skills are often poorly developed in children with severe and /or complex learning difficulties, including autistic spectrum disorders. By working through a series of steps, using game formats, the child learns to watch others’ play, join in, and then take part in turn-taking sequences. This course provides background to the PEIC-D approach, detailed description of each stage, as well as workshop activities to practice of the techniques, and consider how to implement within educational settings.

Book your place now on CPD Online - Wednesday 23 September 9.30am to 3.30pm at Bournemouth Learning Centre.
