September 2, 2019

This edition includes: Safeguarding Updates, Ofsted Big Conversation, Food Safety Updates for Childminders, Speech and Language Support and CPD Training

In July an email was circulated to all providers inviting them to attend events in September regarding the system-wide re-design that is underway across BCP, focusing on Early Help, Early Years & Youth Services, Adolescents at Risk and Alternative Provision. Please use the link to access the full email and to book onto one of the two available dates.

The updated Keeping Children Safe in Education 2019 is now in force.

A useful series of advice and guidance pages have been created on Child Sexual Abuse and Protecting Children.

Early Years Safeguarding Information

Please be aware that much of the information regarding safeguarding within the Bournemouth section of our BCP website is available and relevant to everyone. It is advised that you take time to explore the published resources and familiarise yourselves with the information as this is a comprehensive collection of support and guidance for all providers across BCP. Ongoing work is taking place to align all information and make this as accessible as possible, but regularly checking in for updates is advised.

General Information

Ofsted Big Conversation

This is a forum that is for all those interested in the fairness and quality of Ofsted inspections and also in the EYFS and Funding. It provides an opportunity to share your experiences, voice your frustrations, for networking, CPD, and engagement first hand with Ofsted, Local Authorities and the DfE. Book now to attend at the Early Years Centre for Professional Development on Monday 21 October from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

Food Safety update for Childminders

Childminders are automatically registered as a food business on registration with OFSTED. Here are some key points to help you.

Key food safety points:

  • Food Hygiene Training - many courses are now available CPD Online.

Please email our environmental team if you have any queries.

BCP Provider Facebook Group

The BCP Early Years Sub Group, made up of Providers and LA officers, was established last year to support the development of a BCP Early Years Single Funding Formula. The formula is now in place and the group continues to meet regularly to discuss the impact of the formula and support developments moving forward.

This Facebook group, BCP Early Years Providers Information group, is specifically for setting Owners, Managers, Leaders and Childminders operating within BCP.

CPD Opportunities

Speech and Language Support

Elklan Speech and Language Support for 3-5s will help you to gain the skills to support ALL children on their journey to developing good language skills and thereby to demonstrate the quality of education in your setting. This course will be delivered in 9 evening sessions. For more information and to book, look on CPD Online.

Baby Link - The Role of the Key Person

Baby Link is a network for practitioners working directly with babies and very young children in Bournemouth', Christchurch and Poole day nurseries. Positive interactions with very young children are extremely important to enable them to learn and grow. An exciting opportunity to focus on the key person role and why it is integral to a child's development.

Thursday 26 September 5.30pm-7.30pm

The Wonder of Music

This workshop will support practitioners to create an environment that actively encourages and offers children the opportunity to play and investigate music and sound. Explore how you are embedding music through your practice and be aware of when to add music to children's learning, which will ignite all areas of child development. This workshop will help build practitioners confidence in the importance of the role that they play in the lives of children from babies to starting school.

Monday 4 November 6.30pm-8.30pm
