Requires Action

Vacancy Information

We have vastly improved the process of collecting childcare vacancy data. Please would all providers and childminders complete this short and simple Childcare Vacancy Survey by 11 October.

The survey covers the number of children in your care only for the morning of Thursday 3 October.

We are required to collate this information, each term, for all registered early years childcare providers as part of BCP Council’s Childcare Sufficiency duty.

If you have any queries regarding the survey, please email or call Clare Vials on 01202 456353.

Balance Claims Deadline Reminder

The deadline for the balance claims/changes to your estimate claims is Wednesday 9 October, midnight. After that date you will only be able to add changes through the adjustments module on the portal.

The final version of the Continuum of Need is now ready to use.

As from the 1 October, please use the Prevent National Referral Form and referrals should be sent by email.

A message from the Pan Dorset Safeguarding Children Partnership:

We have received notification of changes to “front door” referral processes in the Dorset Council area, which includes the creation of a new Professional’s Referral Advice Line. These changes, including the Advice Line telephone number. Please view the Children’s Advice and Duty Service FAQs.

You will be aware that we have children and young people attending early years and education provision in the BCP area whilst living in the Dorset Council area. We will be making changes to our BCP LSCB website on 2 October and including these details on the new Pan-Dorset Safeguarding Children website which will be going live shortly.

Winter Readiness Pack – Infectious Diseases

PHE Health Protection Team and Screening and Immunisation Team have prepared a selection of useful documents to help you prepare and respond to infectious diseases during the imminent winter season and throughout the year. Please visit the website to find out:

  • How to prepare for winter infections
  • How to recognise and respond to single cases of infection and outbreaks as they arise in your childcare setting

You will also find a cover letter on the website which explains exactly what the pack contains and how to use it.

General Information

Annual Safeguarding and Inclusion Self Assessment

The BCP Annual Safeguarding and Inclusion Self Assessment process is now in full swing and we would like to take this opportunity to thank those providers based in Poole who completed theirs last term. Bournemouth and Christchurch based providers should have now received theirs and be working towards completing them in time for the deadline.

We have organised a drop-in event aimed to support Early Years Providers in completing the Annual Safeguarding and Inclusion Self Assessment document and to feel comfortable with the new process. Although this is a drop-in event, please ensure you book to secure a place and you can attend anytime between the specified times. Last entry will be 7.15pm.

Wednesday 9 October 4.30pm to 7.30pm Somerford Children’s Centre, Christchurch

If you are unable to attend the drop-in support session and would like some advice/guidance please remember that your Childcare Officers are available if needed.

Facebook Accounts

BCP Council has two family focused Facebook accounts. BCP Early Years is for parents with pre-school aged children from maternity to statutory school age and BCP Family Information for all those at school and beyond.

Please feel free to share relevant posts from both accounts with your parents and carers.

CPD Opportunities

Safeguarding and Provider Forums

On Thursday 24 October we will hold our first BCP wide Early Years provider forum. These will be termly events and will provide local and national updates relevant to early year’s providers. The first event will take place at Poole Civic Centre 7pm to 9pm. To book a place and for more information see CPD Online

Safeguarding forums/networks for DSL’s will also be aligned from October onwards, with each forum being repeated twice. Providers from Bournemouth, Christchurch or Poole can book onto either of the forums. Dates for the Autumn term are Tuesday 15 October at Poole Civic Centre or Thursday 17 October at the EYCPD

Toddler and Preschool Link - The Role of the Key Person

These networks are for practitioners working directly with toddlers and pre-school children in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole day nurseries and pre-schools. Positive interactions with young children are extremely important to enable them to learn and grow. This is an exciting opportunity to focus on the key person role and why it is integral to a child's development.

Toddler Link - Wednesday 16 October 4.30pm to 6.30pm

Pre-school Link - Wednesday 23 October 4.30pm to 6.30pm
