Speech And Language Support

Information to help you support children with their speech, language and communication development.

Come Talk with Me is Bournemouth's speech, language and communication project. It aims to encourage practitioners and parents to work together to improve outcomes for children's speech, language and communication development.

The early years are the most important time for every child's development. Being able to speak clearly and to understand and interact with others is vital as these skills support all other areas of development. Research has shown that children who are well supported in good early years settings make better progress. What you do matters!

Could you be a Communication Champion?

The role of a communication champion is to promote the development of good practice in speech, language and communication for all children. It is also to offer support to families and signpost them to other areas of help such as children's centre 'Come Talk with Me' speech and language groups and the speech and language therapist drop-ins within Play and Learn sessions.

As a communication champion you will have access to our Come Talk with me Network where you can meet other multi-agency communication champions from across Bournemouth to enhance your Continous Professional Development (CPD) in this area. You will also be given a pack of fantastic FREE resources to support your work with children, parents and other practitioners within your setting and your parents will have access to the monthly top tips and activities available via our Bournemouth Early Years Facebook page.

Every childcare setting, childminder, children's centre and library should have a communication champion, contact the Early Years Service for more information and to sign up.

We look forward to welcoming you on board!
