Safe Bus

A safe night-time environment run by volunteers

The emergency services can’t be everywhere at once. That’s why Safe Bus was set up. It’s a partnership project supported by Dorset Police, Bournemouth Borough Council and South Western Ambulance Service.

It helps keep the pressure off the emergency services in the town centre at night by providing care and a safe environment for people at risk.

The Safe Bus runs all year and sets up its base in the town centre. Staffed by volunteers, including special constables, police community support officers, paramedics, club chaplains and alcohol addiction counsellors, the bus provides a safe place for vulnerable people to go.

Who can the Safe Bus help?

The Safe Bus provides a safe environment for anyone who may be vulnerable. The safe bus can help with:

  • Physical injury or illness
  • Concerned for your or someone’s safety
  • Alcohol or drug misuse
  • A victim of alleged crime
  • People separated from their friends
  • Emotional distress
