The Dorset Urban Food Project
The Dorset Urban Food Project looks for ways to develop the local food sector in Bournemouth, Poole and across Dorset
The Dorset Urban Food Project looks for ways to develop the local food sector in Bournemouth, Poole and across Dorset. The idea is to encourage people to buy from local food producers and to grow their own food.
We want to encourage locally grown food because it’s better for the environment. Buying local produce cuts down on the distance food has to travel and reduces carbon emissions from transportation. It also promotes community, healthy eating and investment in local businesses.
The Dorset Urban Food Project is part of the national Big Dig initiative. The Big Dig encourages people in the local community to grow their own food by:
- Supporting existing community food growing projects.
- Developing new sites across the town.
- Encouraging more volunteers to get involved.
