Bournemouth and Poole Health and Wellbeing Board

Information about your Health and Wellbeing Board

The Board brings together elected members, leaders from the NHS, social care and the voluntary sector. They work together and support one another to improve the health and wellbeing of the local population and reduce health inequalities.

The Board provides a forum for challenge, discussion and the involvement of local people. The Board also has responsibility for development of the Better Care Fund plan. This supports the transformation of the health and social care system in Bournemouth & Poole to meet the combined challenges of the demands of the population.

There are four Board meetings a year. Dates, agendas, minutes, reports and audio recordings can be accessed by clicking on the following link:

You can ask questions to the Board via Twitter by tweeting your question using the hashtag #bphwb. This will be treated as any other question and @hwatchDorset (Healthwatch Dorset) will tweet you when an answer has been given. You can also post to Healthwatch Dorset on Facebook any questions you might have. The deadline for questions received via Facebook or Twitter is the same for those by any other method - a day before the meeting.

It oversees the development of the health and social care needs assessment referred to as the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) and the Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA). The JSNA identifies the health and wellbeing needs of the people of Bournemouth & Poole. The results are used to inform local commissioning of services to create a more effective and responsive local health and care system. The PNA ensures that there are sufficient pharmacy services across the area.

These assessments enable the Board to create a Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy. This clearly identifies key health and wellbeing issues and actions to improve the health and wellbeing of local people.

The Board also takes a role in the Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP). The multi-year STP will show how local services will evolve and become sustainable over the next five years. Ultimately this is delivering the Five Year Forward View vision. To do this, local health and care systems will come together to create the STP and the Board will play a key role in facilitating this.
