Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Shadow Authority

Committee description

The Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Shadow Authority is made up of 125 seats, filled by all existing 120 Councillors from the preceding authorities (including Bournemouth’s 54 councillors and five councillors who are both Borough and County Councillors for Christchurch).

The Shadow Authority will be responsible for setting the first budget of the new unitary council. It is not involved in ongoing service delivery for Bournemouth residents.  This responsibility remains with Bournemouth Council, and will transfer to the new council in April next year.

The Shadow Authority appoints statutory officers on an interim basis, as well as appointing Members to relevant Committees. It confirms the preceding councils’ nominations to a Shadow Executive Committee. 

The Shadow Executive Committee oversees the implementation plans for the new council.
