Armed Forces Day
Commemorating the Armed Forces - Past, Present and Future
Armed Forces Day is Saturday 25 June 2016. Past, present and future Service men and women of the British Armed Forces are commemorated in ceremonies held throughout the Country.
Flag-Raising Ceremony - Bournemouth
A Flag-raising Ceremony will take place on Monday 20 June 2016 at 10.30am around the flag pole situated at the Town Hall. Veterans nominated by local veteran associations will attend the event where they will be joined by Service Cadets from the TS Phoebe and Bournemouth Combined Cadet Force.
The Bugler starts the ceremony at 11.59am. While he plays, the Armed Forces Day flag will be raised. The Mayor's Chaplain will say prayers in remembrance of those who lost their lives fighting for their country. The Mayor will then host a private reception in the Parlour for the representatives of veterans associations, cadets and the Armed Forces.
The flag, which includes the year’s date as a memento, is presented as a gift to one of the attending veterans – chosen at random.
Last year’s recipient was Mr Walter Kammerling from AJEX (the Association of Jewish Ex-Service Men & Women).
