Commemorating the Armed Forces - Past, Present and Future
Armed Forces Day is Saturday 24 June 2017. Past, present and future Service men and women of the British Armed Forces are commemorated in ceremonies held throughout the Country.
Flag-Raising Ceremony - Bournemouth
A Flag-raising Ceremony will take place on Monday 19 June 2017 at 10.30am around the flag pole situated at the Town Hall. Veterans nominated by local veteran associations will attend the event where they will be joined by Service Cadets from the TS Phoebe and Bournemouth Combined Cadet Force.
The Armed Forces Day flag will be raised and the Mayor's Chaplain will say prayers in remembrance of those who lost their lives fighting for their country. The Mayor will then host a reception in the Parlour for the representatives of veterans associations, cadets and the Armed Forces.
The flag, which includes the year’s date as a memento, is presented as a gift to one of the attending veterans – chosen at random.
