Local Flood Risk Management Strategy

As a Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA)
we are required to produce a Local Flood Risk Management Strategy as part of the Floods and Water Management Act 2010 (F&WM Act)

Looking at local flood risks, which includes flooding from surface water, groundwater and ‘ordinary watercourses’, the aim of the strategy is to:

  • Improve understanding of the causes of local flooding
  • Identify where practical solutions can be implemented
  • Use available data to reduce flood risk through sustainable development
  • Assist the wider community in improving flood resilience

The local strategy must be consistent with the national flood and coastal erosion risk management strategy for England and must be approved by the Environment Agency (EA) as complying with the national strategy.
