Green Economy Leader
Bournemouth to become a ‘Green Economy Leader’
Bournemouth’s drive to become a ‘Green Economy Leader’ will see the town position itself at the cutting edge of environmental protection. We will use the high quality environment to attract business talent and inward investment. To find out more, read Bournemouth’s Climate Change Strategy 2016-2020.
Bournemouth’s carbon reduction activities currently place it in the top 25% of ‘nearest neighbour’ authorities. This saw it named ‘Greenest City’ in the 2013 UK Vitality Index.
To help improve further, we have joined the Compact of Mayors. It is the world’s largest coalition of city leaders addressing climate change by pledging to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and tracking progress. In 2016 Bournemouth achieved the highest standard of Compact of Mayors membership, becoming only the third UK council to become ‘compliant’ with all requirements.
According to the London School of Economics, Green Economy Leaders enjoy:
- competitive advantage
- high levels of productivity and income
- high and growing levels of environmental performance
- promote sustainable growth in output and welfare over the longer term
To help achieve ‘Green Economy Leader’ status in Bournemouth, businesses will be engaged using a Key Account Management approach. There will be further development of the recently formed Sustainable Business Leadership Group of proactive sustainable businesses.
To successfully become a Green Economy Leader demands that our environment is of a high quality and continually improving. To see what Bournemouth is doing to reduce emissions and prepare for climate change, use the links on the right.
