How we assess sustainability in our Local Plan
We prepare Sustainability Appraisals when drafting new Development Planning Documents (DPD). They help to make sure development is done in an environmentally friendly way and are a legal requirement under the European Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) Directive (2001/42/EC).
Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report
We use a scoping report to provide a broad framework for sustainability appraisal of all the Development Planning Documents. The report sets out how appraisals are to be carried out by providing baseline data and showing what key sustainability issues Bournemouth faces.
These individual Sustainability Appraisal reports, together with the Scoping Report, meet the need for an ‘Environmental Report’ as required by the SEA Directive and Regulations. They explain the likely effects the plan will have on the environment and the alternatives that have been considered.
