Volunteer Community Cars Scheme

SEDCAT (South East Dorset Community Accessible Transport) offers a service to help get you out and about.

Community Cars can help anyone in the Bournemouth area who can’t use public transport but still need to get out and about. It’s a kind, caring and compassionate service which gives a safe and helping hand.

The service is run with a team of volunteer drivers. They use their own cars to go out into the community and help members with every day needs. These can include a visit to a local GP, a trip to a friendship group, even the hairdressers. Mileage is charged at 60p per mile (minimum charge £5) which is calculated from the driver’s home. All Community Car drivers are CRB checked.

The new accessible MPV

A scheme for wheelchair bound residents of Bournemouth, who need to get out and about in the community but can only leave their homes in an accessible taxi. A new fully accessible vehicle has recently been purchased by SEDCAT and is available to members who can only travel in a wheelchair.

The new MPV is only driven by fully trained Volunteer drivers from the SEDCAT Volunteer Community Car Scheme. With the arrival of the new MPV any SEDCAT member who needs to travel in a wheelchair can now do so in comfort and style. A volunteer driver will collect them from their home and take them to wherever they need to go. It's as easy as that!

Enquiries for the new accessible MPV can be made on 01202 309433. There is a charge of £1 per mile (minimum charge £8.00).
