We are participating in the Department for Transport’s 2021 trial for rental electric scooters in Bournemouth and Poole.
Electric Scooter rental trial
The e-scooters will provide an innovative, emission-free transport option for both residents and visitors to the area. Our Bike Share partner Beryl will run the e-scooter scheme and be fully responsible for all implementation and operating costs.
The initial trial will run until November 2021 and help the Government’s research into the use of e-scooters, ultimately informing National Policy.
Visit Beryl for more information on the scheme, bays and availability of vehicles.
Please note the trial is for the use of Beryl rental e-scooters only, privately-owned e-scooters will remain illegal for use on all public roads.
Using the scooters
- riders can download the Beryl app free from the App Store for iOS, and the Google Play Store for Android
- e-scooters can be picked up and dropped off in marked ‘Beryl Bays’
- once finished users must lock the scooter via the app
- a chime from the scooter will register it as now locked.
The rental scooters can be ridden on roads in Bournemouth and Poole as well as on the expanding network of signed cycle lanes and cycle/shared-use facilities. A map of the area is available for download.
E-scooters cannot be used on pavements or in pedestrian areas.
Users must be over 16 and hold a valid provisional or full UK driving licence which will be verified by Beryl before the e-scooter is hired. Riders are encouraged to wear a helmet.
To report misuse of an e-scooter please contact Beryl.
COVID-19 safety measures are in place.
